Chateau de la Nerthe

This morning, visit of Chateau de la Nerthe, one of the big names in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. We were received by a lady who's job it is to give tours of the cellars and tastings of the wine. They have budgets, anyway. The chateau and grounds are gorgeous, and the cellars are very impressive, including stone cisterns made from blocks of the Roman amphitheater in Orange, the nearest city. We only tasted their common wines, not the special cuvés, which just sets the tone for the whole visit. Not very friendly, a little distant, by a lady who has her whole value invested in the gravitas of the moment... rather than the experience of tasting the wine. Kinda ruined the tasting for me, and I don't remember much of the wines, but I got some good pictures. Location : Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France
