Domaine de Cabriere

Very friendly reception, by the vinter and his cousin. We toured the whole place, and tasted wine from the cask (barrique) due for one more year in a foudre. Interesting, not as harsh or oaky as I thought it would be. Ivonne found their wines too tame, and suspected too much filtering, a "crime" they've been accused of by Parker, but I rather liked them... You can't drink powerful wines with everything, and these were well-balanced. In any case, I bought three of their "Tête de Cuvée" 2000 for myself, and three of their "Cuvée Tradition" 2001 for Dad's Xmas. They threw in a 2002 for good luck, as they are rather proud of their accomplishment in what was a bad vintage. They did win a silver medal with it. All in all, a good experience, particularly tasting from the cask. They recommended a local restaurant, where we did have a good time, if a little rushed for our next appointment.
