Domaine Pierre André

Domaine Pierre André is vinified by Monsieur André's daughter Jacqueline André, who received very kindly despite end-of-harvest paperwork! The opposite of the scientific precision of Cabriere, she works by biodynamic methods, and even the 800 egg whites she uses to deposit the last solids in the wine come from a "bio" farm. She accepts whatever the vines are willing to give, and thus declines to bottle more years than Cabriere does, (who even bottled the 2002!), preferring to sell to "le négoce". The result is that each vintage she does release has a very distinct personnality, one year very musky, peppery and animal, the very next fruity and flowery. We tasted the 98, 99, 2000 and 2001, and bought some 99, which will easily age 10 years, a spectacular vintage! Very animal, potent and balanced, with strong, round tanins, and very clearly not expressing its full potential yet... Five years later! We'll try a bottle in three years... perhaps for Greg's 30th or Mom's 60th? Location : Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France
